Personification

Definition: to give something, that is not human, human traits
Example: "Hey diddle, Diddle,
                The cat and the fiddle,
                The cow jumped over the moon;
                The little dog laughed
                To see such sport,
                And the dish ran away with the spoon."
                  -Mother Goose
Significance: It makes the poem more dramatic and interesting. Personification can also
give a poem a certain mood.
